But right now the quality is first priority since almost all operators; about 10 GSM and CDMA operators are offering the same, low cost to make a call to the same operators.
Varieties of the charging mechanism are happening in the many services including download content that can be change anytime depend on the market request or the same services offered by competitors

There many kinds of charging mechanism in the download contents services. Based on the type of contents they can be divided into:

1. Periodic charging per certainty period ( daily, weekly, monthly and so on)
In this charging, customer have to pay of a mount of money after the application to be a receiver a content has been approved by provider (operator). Once it is approved they will charged a one then receiving content for few days. After those days are passed, operator will offer the same content for next few days and then recharged the same price. Customers can stop be a receiver of content by submit a un-registration form to cancel to receiving more same content. If customers forgot to submit this request at the time when first period finished then it is supposed customers agree to extend a application then customer will be charged and will receive the same content for one next period

2. Based on price per content
In this charging mechanism, customers do not need to submit an application to receive content. A charging will be given once they try to download a content they want. A price is given based on a type of content, different type and size have different price. It is possible to have different price to each contents. Customers are permitted to look at to the contents available before they decide to buy them. Once they interested to buy one or more contents, the charging are occurring when customers push the download bottom. Contents are received by downloading process.

Here is the sample of both charging mechanism in the CDMA network that have been introduced to the market:

1. ESIA HIDAYAH, ESIA KASIH, ESIA FU
By submit to all above services provided by those bundling handsets, customers will receive content periodically for a certain period time (example; one payment for a week). Submission can done by push a menu that available in the handset and follow the next step. It is a simple steps and procedure to register this content service. Once customers decide to stop to receive this content, customers just need to submit un-register form that available in the menu as well. Periodic content can be accessed by customers by push a content menu that is available in the handsets once registration form is succeeded. Customers can browse the content anytime and as much they want during this submission period deducted each time the customers submit a subscription form to receive this content
Charging will happen once the submission accepted by provider and customers have enough balance

2. ESIA SHOP
It is different with the previous services, ESIA SHOP provide a download content that can be accessed through the same handsets. Both ESIA SHOP and periodic content service are available in the same handset and the menus to do both are already available inside the handset. A one stop service has been prepared inside these handsets. By pushing a download menu, customers can see much kind of contents offered by provider and can by one or more those by push download bottom in the each content. Price and simple description are given in the each content before customers decide to buy it. Once customers push this bottom, charging are happening and downloading process as well. If customers have low balance, they will receive this notification and download process will fail. And if balance is enough for one content, download process will continue until the content receive by customers in their handsets.

Both charging mechanisms are used to use by content provider or operators to charge the customers during receiving their download content services. Both mechanisms has been applied by PT Bakrie Telecom in many their value added services products based on BREW application they have. Their products are ESIA HIDAYAH, ESIA KASIH, ESIA FU, ESIA SHOP.

More better transmission, faster the internet access

There are many types of transmission could be used by telecommunication operators to deliver the traffic from source to destination, deliver the packet from one node to another one. The type of transmission media will influence very significant to the service performance. Planning and designing the transmission media at the first deployment is very critical. Therefore, telecommunication operators used to plan it for long time, what kind of transmission they will use, what kind of network topology, how long such transmission will be deployed, when they plan to upgrade the capacity etc.

It is depending on where it will be deployed and how much capacity they want, the type of transmission media used to divide into; coaxial cable, optical fiber, wireless (microwave radio). One of the most important network elements in the mobile telecommunication services is Intelligent Network (IN). IN connected telecommunication services providers and customer needs in order to all services can run well. The main function of IN is related to the billing function that will be implemented to the customers during accessing the services. Customer request will be accepted or not depend on the status of the numbers they have, if the number is valid (active state and have enough balance) then it will be allowed to access the service and if the number is invalid (expired state and low balance or expired state but enough balance) then the service will be blocked

All services application will connected directly or through interfacing to IN to do billing process. In the CDMA network those application included voice and SMS services and Value Added Services (VAS), e.g. download contain services, WAP application, CDMA 1x service etc. Since IN has the most important function in the mobile telecommunication services then generally they built in multi redundancy and have high capacity occupancy. These are reasonable to make sure that all services will run well and services will be not interrupted if one of IN failed to served. Moreover, this deployment to make sure those services will still have good performance to carry out much traffic

CDMA 1x and Value Added Services as the one of the services that need IN availability continuously are sending request every time whenever subscribers activate the service. The huge requests are possible to be sent from one application service (more then a thousand request per second). Image if the mobile telecommunication providers have fifty millions subscribers and there are five services they provided. The IN availability become the main issue for such provider. They must provided many IN system in their network and fully redundant, otherwise the services will always interrupt once high traffic come. As the result their subscribers will leave them. Generally CDMA 1x and VAS services both have the same charging system or in the some case, sometimes VAS have separate billing system that built indeed. In the case they have the same one, the charging system will need to connect to IN directly or in many case IN provide the gateway to connect their SCPs. Others services that need to have IN services used to attach to this gateway.

What will happen once subscriber activates the service? Commonly there are two type of subscriber billing status; they are prepaid and postpaid subscribers. IN will serve to the prepaid subscribers only meanwhile postpaid will only write in each billing application services and will be report to the postpaid billing application.

Following are the process will be done by SCP once the request coming in the CDMA 1x and VAS services;

1.Application billing system will send balance query request to IN
Once the session is coming the first thing that will be done by application services is sending request to the SCP according to the subscriber status.
2.SCP will look into the subscriber profile
If subscriber is valid (active state and enough balance) then it will be allowed to access the traffic, otherwise it will be blocked. This checking also will look forward what kind of service (class of service, COS) they have in the database. If the profile it matched then those services will be applied to this subscriber and vice versa

3.SCP will response the request
If request from application service is matched SCP will send response to identify that subscriber is valid and allow to access to the service
4.Application billing system will deduct amount of balance
Once request is responded then amount of balance will be deducted as the charging for the service
5.Application service will allow the traffic
Subscriber then will be allowed to access the traffic for that much balance they deducted. Once subscribers need more traffic, the same process will happen until subscriber terminate the session, disconnect the service
Due to huge request sent to IN, sometimes IN failed to handle the service. The error message will be sent by IN to application services to indicate what kind of errors it is. Some of application services forward these errors to subscriber to notify why they failed to access the service and some of them keep these errors in their system

To gain more Average Revenue per User (ARPU) by increasing calling traffic from their customers, fixed wireless CDMA telecommunication operators used to have specific prefix number to make a long distance call. As we know that the mobility of their customers are limited by area/region and some of them have no directly Long Distance Call Service (SLJJ) license. So, to provide long distance call for their customers usually they provide specific dial access code. But this method is working only for their customers; it means the same dial access code will not work once we try to call to another telecommunication operator’s number. Through specific dial access code, telecommunication operators will give cheap tariff to the customers.
Usually telecommunication operators used to have VOIP International Call Service to provide international call for their customers. It is the same thing with long distance call service through own network (own-net), telecommunication operators used to specify dial access code during make a call but it is different access code with long distance call. And it is the same reason that through VOIP International Call Service, customers will pay cheap for their calling session. Through both methods, telecommunication operators hope their ARPU will increase every month
Unfortunately sometimes it is not running as we expected once both access codes for VOIP International Call Service and Long Distance Call Service are a little bit confusing. This will show you a case how this is happening

1. Long Distance Call Service = 01010 + Area Code with (0) + Destination number

2. VOIP International Call Service = 01010 + Country Code + Area Code + Destination number
Example;
a. Jakarta Customer need to call to Singapore , then he/she must dial 01010 6564xxxx
b. Surabaya customer need to call to India, then he/she must dial 01010919703012xxx
As you saw above access codes for both VOIP International Call Service and Long Distance Call Service is the same (01010). This is a little bit confusing for customers if they are in the first time to make a call for both services. For them who used to make a call for both service definitely will be no issue
This is common mistake once customers need to make a long distance call service but they are using invalid access code
For example;
1. Jakarta customer makes a call to Jambi customer. Unfortunately they dial with 01010 7419701xxx
Since the prefix is invalid, then the calling will be forwarded to Russia
The valid call is 010100 7419701xxx
2. Bandung customer makes a call to Makasar number by dialing 01010 4119144xxx
Since the prefix is invalid, then the calling will be forwarded to Switzerland
The valid call is 010100 4119144xxx
3. Medan customer makes a call to Yogyakarta customer by dialing 010102749221xxx
Since the prefix is invalid, then the calling will be forwarded to South Africa
The valid call is 0101002749221xxx
4. Medan customer makes a call to Purwakarta customer by dialing 01010264916xxx
Since the prefix is invalid, then the calling will be forwarded to Namibia
The valid call is 010100264916xxx
5. Semarang customer makes a call to Malang customer by dialing 010103419776xxx
Since the prefix is invalid, then the calling will be forwarded Spain
The valid call is 0101003419776xxx

For all common mistake above, the call will be disconnected since usually the destination number is incomplete for each country. And for all that common mistake, customer will be not charged

To realize this idea, Bakrie Telecom makes a deal with Huawei as a partner to provide all requirements. This dealing have benefit to both side, Huawei is a new player in the gadget market, this is a good chance for them to expand their products, as we know they have succeed with mobile telecommunication infrastructures. The demand for this infrastructure is increasing significant especially in the South Asia market. Meanwhile for Bakrie Telecom, this agreement will increase customers demand due their mobile numbers have been bundled in this low cost gadgets. It is very difficult for new mobile telecommunication provider in Indonesia to get significant customers since there are around ten providers offered the same services. I am sure there many people is disappoint with the wireless internet access (CDMA 1x, 3G, EVDO) provided by many telecommunication operators. At the first time, they can surf very fast but few months later it will very slow
Many factors influence the speed of wireless internet access. It could be hardware modem issue, BTS occupancy, distance from BTS to BSC, bandwidth to internet etc. But as a customer we do not want to know about it all. We just need the service as telecommunication promise in the promotion after we paid
Usually, telecommunication operators are getting occupancy issue either BTS or internet bandwidth but mostly it is because Radio Frequency (RF) capacity. Telecommunication operators promote to have more and more customers but in many cases, the network is saturated. What happening in this case is, customer session is still there but has poor quality since many request from customers but limit bandwidth capacity. So then the session is still going on but the speed is very slow or no response from the website
I used to use Wimode modem from Bakrie telecom to access to internet and as any other telecommunication operators, sometime the speed is good but during the peak hour sometimes getting slow. Sometimes when I read a page from websites for a few minutes suddenly I can browse to the next page or I can not to access to another website. Then I have to wait for few minutes to be able to access to the next page or new website. What happen once we read the page from the website we love is our connection was terminated by the network due to our session is in dormant mode. Dormant mode is idle session once no traffic is downloaded from us. What happen in the next once we need to browse to new website or the next page is, we have to make new session again. We have to request a channel from BTS and so on
To keep the session we already made from our modem, BTS until bandwidth internet once we read a page we love for a few minute, I used to do ping session to particular website or address. This is to ensure that we always occupy a channel. Another thing, by pinging to particular website or address we will notice how fast the connection we have and prepare once the connection will be dropped

To do pinging session you can follow the steps below;
1. Click start
2. Click run
3. Click cmd then windows prompt will appear
4. type a website you want to test or address for example www.yahoo.com -t
You can identify your connection by seeing the response that appears there. The best response time is less than 1 ms (direct connection to the system or located in the same network). For CDMA 1x system, response time around 500 ms to 1500 ms is still acceptable. We can say the connection is good. But for 3G system it should be less than that. It is depending on website you want to test. And if the response time is more than that range, please prepare as in few second the session will be no response. The page you are seeing will lank.

About 3 years ago, at the first introduction of 3G services in Indonesia market, many customers expected that they can do browse to several websites very fast and download to huge file as well. Through 3G services, customers believe that the distance is no more issue for them to have virtual connection with their family or friends located at different city since 3G services provided video call feature in order to they can face to face to talk. Unfortunately they get not many as they expected. In this case, it seems customers have too high expectation. That is what happened to 3G services in Indonesia
At the first time, telecommunication operators are giving what they promised to their customers to have exiting experience by doing wireless internet access. A telecommunication operator offered high speed data access through 3G wireless network. For around 2-3 months, customers really got what have been promised by telecommunication operators. They got new experience to access internet through 3G services. They can connect their family and friend through video call feature provided in the 3G services. Customers need only a few minute to download huge file and real time services can be accessed very smooth. In the short sentence, customers are very satisfied with 3G services at the first introduction of this service.
Unfortunately after 2-3 months since the first introduction, the quality was going down. The quality of speed is suddenly becoming very slowly and almost they have no response from the URL address. And then cam again another telecommunication operators offer the same service and off course cheaper tariff. More people are trying to feel this experience and buying a new 3G services offered by new comer of 3G provider. And as expected before, the same case happens again. It is only around 2-3 months that 3G service is giving what they have promised. The quality of speed is becoming very bad after 2-3 months later.
Many factors are influences the quality of speed in 3G services. And the main reason is the saturation of the network either BTS capacity or internet upstream to ISP due more customers occupied network. If so, telecommunication operators should expand their network or add more bandwidth capacity to their ISP partners so then customers will get what they have been promising during promotion
This is the bad case, when my friend was trying to upload a file (around 20 KB) to update his blog/website, what happened in the next is, he was trying so many times to upload but always failed. The funny this is, he was connecting to 3G network to update his blog/website. And he is only accessing one URL address, it is a multiply. More often when you are trying to connect to 3G network, you will be responded by GPRS network. The result is you will get GPRS speed and not 3G speed or your session connected to 3G network but you get very slow speed due to high occupancy network. And in this case, my friend connected to 3G network but no traffic is coming. His session is connecting but can do nothing. It is very bad because you pay for 3G service but in many cases you get GPRS service or get nothing

Comprehensive services of the telecommunication business

From customer’s perspective, they will choose any telecommunication operators that have comprehensive services. It is not enough to have traditional services (voice and SMS services) as the only one service they have. It is high risky to have it only even they offer attractive tariff to voice and SMS services to their customers. Usually in the traditional services, prepaid customers have high priority to be exploited. Telecommunication operators will offer many benefits to them by offering e.g. free call to own net call, free SMS for 100 or more SMS. But it will be a big problem if their competitor did the same. And for the consequence is there will be a high churn rate they will gain in the end on month, it is around 60% to 75%, it is very high definitely. This is common issue faced by all telecommunication operators in Indonesia. And now they are working so hard to decrease this churn rate by many strategies and methods
To have comprehensive services, telecommunication operators must provide all possibility needed by customers even it is segmented or have a less users. But telecommunication operators must not underestimate this market. Once again the comprehensive services had by telecommunication operators is having high consideration for customers to choose which telecommunication operators number they will choose, even they only use one of the services once a week. And as the result, customers will keep their number and never think to change with others number. Then automatically the churn rate will decrease
Unfortunately to have comprehensive service is not enough with innovative and destructive products and services. Any platform they have, telecommunication platform actually have data service through their existing network with few additional infrastructure. 2. Value Adds Services (VAS)
This is an adaptive service. Many services can be offered through Value Ads Service (VAS) by using existing network or adding few of network elements to have variety of Value Adds Service (VAS). Herewith some example for these services;
a. BREW Services
This is application that embedded in the handsets. Through this kind of handset, telecommunication operators can offer many attractive services to their customers. For example; ESIA HIDAYAH, ESIA KASIH, ESIA FU, ESIA BALI
b. Application registration services
Through application registration services, customers will receive many benefit services. For example, daily wisdom through SMS, horoscope through BREW handsets etc
c. Ring back tone
Customers can choose any ring tone will available during some body call him

why my internet connection fail?

There are many reason subscribers will get failure during access CDMA 1x through the Laptop/PC or handsets. The reason could be from subscribers end or network providers. Which side is having problem during accessing can be identified from the display errors that sent to subscribers. Errors mentioned below are common occurred at CDMA 1x but it is possible that the same errors occurred in the others network platform e.g. GSM, 3G and WCDMA networks
Here are data session processes starting from subscribers until they get internet service. Generally these processes are done by subscribers using Laptop/PC

1. Subscribers preparing their device by connecting the modem device to the Laptop/PC
Subscribers need to make sure that there are no issue connections in their device before data call dialing. It can be done by query the modem attached to the laptop/PC. Once query received succeed messages, it means the device ready to make a session
2. Data call then will request RF channel to the BTS. Once the channel is available then it will be occupied for active subscriber’s session.
Channel will be occupied as long as subscriber is active status. It means once subscribers leave the Laptop/PC and do nothing for a few time until reach dormant time then the session will be terminated
3. BSC will send IP channel to PDSN network
MSC will identify what kind of request send by subscribers. If it data call request then forward it to PDSN to reserve IP channel. MSC identified the called number sent by subscribers and if it is specific number (in this case #777 is a data call request) then MSC will send it to PDSN. At the same time, MSC will identify the subscriber number whether it is authorized to get data cal in the HLR. If the subscriber profile is available in the HLR then he/she will allowed to access it

4. PDSN will process the request and send the traffic once the parameters required is complete

There are many process will be executed by PDSN as the core device to serve data call.
They are:
- Allocating IP Pool: subscribers will be reserved one IP Pool to this session
- Sending authentication request: Authentication server will identify if the subscriber is a valid session. If yes then will be allowed to go to the next step
- Sending accounting request: this is the next step after authentication step is passed. Accounting server will check whether subscriber have enough balance or not. If balance is enough then will be permitted to access the internet service or another services provided by network provider. If not enough then the session will be blocked
- Forwarding internet traffic to customer through BSC's PCF

Below are errors message will be received by subscribers once they got unsuccessfully data call session;
1.Invalid username and password (error 691)
This error due to some reason below:
a. Subscriber put the wrong username and password.
b. Subscriber’s dialer has gone corrupt

How to get this error to go away:
1) Check the username and password.
2) Check which number the dialer is dialing, it should be #777.
3) Recreate the dialer.
Steps to recreate dialer:
a) Go to ‘Start’ >> ‘Control Panel’ >> ‘Network Connections’ >> on the left hand side you have the option ‘Create a New Connection’.
b) Follow the steps as: click on ‘Next’ >> ‘Connect to Internet’ >> ‘Setup Connection Manually’ >> ‘Connect Using Dialup Modem’ >> then enter username and password >> click ‘Finish’.

2.Hardware (modem) problem (error 797)
This error is coming due to modem was installed improperly. How to make sure the modem was installed proper or no?
a)Go to ‘Start’ >> ‘Control Panel’ >> phone and modem option >> click modem >> properties >> diagnostic >> query modem
b)Once this query is getting succeed response message, it means the modem is ready to be used

3.The remote computer did not respond (error 721)
This is error due to many reasons;
a.Session is not getting RF channel from the BTS
b.The number used by subscriber is not registered in the HLR to have data service feature. HLR is checking that the number is not available to have data service feature
c.The session is rejected by HLR
How to get this error to go away?
If this is caused by RF capacity what we can do is trying to connect in the low traffic time. But if this is caused by HLR customer need to contact the provider the check the number

After their previous product for Moslem people (ESIA Hidayah) was succeed, Bakrie Telecom design new product for Indonesian Christian people. These segmented products are accepted well by Indonesian people since many features are available and obviously low price. It is like a gadget for Moslem people, in the gadgets for Christian people (was called ESIA Kasih) are available Holy bible contents and praying for Christian. Both applications can be accessed once subscribers have register to this application. And once registration is accepted then for a week subscribers will free to access both contents any where and any time. Subscribers only need to pay Rp 1000 per content for a week. Despite of both applications, there is one more application that only available in such bundled gadget, that is ESIA SHOP. It is same like a ESIA SHOP in the Moslem gadgets, here are available many things related to Christian e.g. Christian ring tones, Christian wallpaper etc. And how it will be charged is like a charging in the Moslem gadget.

Once subscriber has bought this gadget, the first thing he/she need to do is activate the number inserted inside by registering to 4444 number. Mobile telecommunication provider will require subscriber identity before activate the number. The world financial crisis produces every industry all around the going down. We can see company fire their employee almost everyday and many companies bankrupt at this time especially they which involved exporting the products and importing material to produce the stuff. Some of them can not pay their employee due they gain nothing from the products they have been made. Market is going down dramatically at this time.

Actually, this crisis is impacting as well to telecommunication industry but it is not significant especially to them who have steady customers but it will have significant impact if they are new telecommunication operators due to they still a lot of network infrastructure to deploy the network and almost 90% of the component are imported. Telecommunication operators which faced this problem used to they postpone all the network deployment. By this option which means they will only have existing network infrastructure that limited, they still can get much revenue

Why they still can get much revenue? Telecommunication operators still can get much revenue by offering many products and services e.g. low tariff and save bundling packages. The financial crisis force any one and any company to save to any outcome and choosing the low tariff for their communication purpose is the smart choice. Moreover, financial crisis make every one postpone going to abroad but they still need to communicate with their business partner or family. To fulfill this purpose, VOIP call is the best option

Telecommunication industry can make more innovative products and services and they still can gain more revenue and they only need a few investments to support their innovation.
